Show Yourself Some Love Through Recreational Flying

I have said it a million times and I will say it again – Recreational Flying is one of my favorite hobbies. You might think that it is a costly hobby. Yes, it is, and not to sound arrogant or anything, but I really do not mind the price of this hobby; not because I can afford it, but because it just help me a lot in dealing with life and brings a lot of good vibes into my personality and my overall outlook.

Whenever I fly, my focus and concentration skills are improved. It enhances my mental acuity and at the same time enhances my multitasking ability. Flying, for me, is a stress reliever. Every time I am facing tough times, I just spend a few minutes flying and it seems as though my worries and troubles are all gone. My mind becomes more relaxed and rejuvenated.

You might find it ironic, but flying does actually help me maintain a healthy and fit body. I treat myself as a commercial pilot. So, I always take good care of my body, especially my grooming. I always make sure that I job every day. I am not a gym person. I prefer to jog around the neighborhood and sometimes exercise in the comfort of my own home. Because I am fit and healthy, I do not only look good, but I feel good too. I have a stable state of mind. I get to look at things in a positive perspective.

Recreational flying also gives me an adrenaline rush. Whenever I fly a plane, it excites me in an unexplained way. As I pull the aircraft up in the sky, I feel the rush. As I safely land, I feel a sense of accomplishment, that feeling that I was able to take on another challenge and survive it.

Lastly, flying is my passion. Ever since I was a kid I always dream of flying a plane. I know that I can’t be a commercial pilot because I cannot stand to be away from my family. I know for a fact that the life of commercial pilots is not easy. They have to endure the time away from their family just to send passengers to their desired destination. So, instead of becoming a commercial pilot, I decided to indulge in recreational flying. It enables me to follow my passion and at the same time gives me the freedom to spend my time to people that matter to me. Cost wise, recreational flying is an expensive hobby. I spent thousands for my hobby but considering the satisfaction it gives me, I don’t mind the price. I am extremely happy doing the things I love the most.

Recreational Flying For Couples

Almost everyone in our neighborhood in Oxford share the joys of spending time outdoors. I’ve got a friend down the block who has a habit of knocking at my door every Saturday early morning. Jeff had been doing this since we were still kids. He never runs out of any outdoor retreat ideas for the weekend.

Jeff was the one who taught me how to enjoy a lot of different things. When we were kids we would spend outside the fence of the airport field flying kites and watching all those huge planes come and go. Those weekend wanderings had sparked our passion in flying airplanes. We never made a career out of it but we had included it to our weekend experiences. It took us three months to attend to our aviation training to fly smaller plane. After we got our license, weekends were then spent flying and enjoying the scenic views and the beautiful sunset. For me, flying is an exhilarating and rewarding experience that’s quite addicting.

When Jeff and I got married and had kids, our weekly retreat in the sky became once a month activity or sometimes no flying happened in a month. We had to consider the financial aspects of paying the rent of flying a plane against household obligations. We recognized that married life has lots of things to sacrifice. But we never consider our married lives as  reasons to compromise our happiness. It’s not only in recreational flying that we get to fulfill our interests. We enjoy the simple things of being two families getting together to eat, drink and laugh outside our home.

I had created good memories with Jeff and his family in our neighborhood. But things in the neighborhood will never be the same again because Jeff and his wife had decided to leave the country for good. He told us about it just the other day and we were in a sort of denial at first. But when I saw on the newspaper ads that Jeff’s house was in there among the multi family homes for sale, I myself had to battle with an irrational separation anxiety.

The days after we knew about their decision for migration, all of us in our family have waded through some emotional feelings. But we understood that the world is big and full of possibilities that Jeff’s family should explore. I just thought of cherishing the time that we’re still together in the neighborhood. We can still spend the remaining entire weekends doing the things we used to do. We can still rent a plane to see more of the picturesque landscapes in the city, we can still do outdoor camping together as families or simply share a special meal at each other’s home.

We had made meaningful bonding with this family for many good years. And I realize creating meaningful connections with people is one of the most important things in life. The interaction, the sharing of the same hobbies and the time spent with them are what make us fully alive.

Flying With Pets

When, for some reason, you have to fly with your pet, or your pet has to be sent on a flight without you, you have to make sure you follow aviation protocols for pet flights, so that you can be granted the chance to avail of a flight where you and/or your pet can be comfortably flying towards your destination.

Pet flights are kind of tiresome, because, there are a lot of requirements that you have to present in order for you to be granted a flight. Besides the paper requirements, you also have to provide the proper pet cargo. The cargo crate has to be in accordance to the rules of the airline you plan to buy a ticket from. You also have to make sure that your pet is medically conditioned to fly inside a plane. Only well-groomed pets will have the chance to travel, to prevent any disease contamination between other animals and pets taking the flight, and of course, to prevent diseases from reaching human passengers.

Why all the hassle?

I, for one, sometimes get sad whenever I have to think about the many things I have to comply in order to have my dog experience flying. Since I love flying, I would also love it if my pets could experience the adventures with me. But of course, at the end of the day, we all have to understand that these are rules set for everybody’s protection, including our pets.

Of course, we will have to make sure that we are always safe so that bad things won’t happen. It is just good to know that you did what you could to make sure that everybody, even pets, are in great care.

Sweet Escape to Venezuela

Aside from recreational flying, another thing I enjoy doing is to travel to different places around the globe. The feeling I get from flying and from travelling are the same.

I feel a sense of escape from all the worries and the fast-pace of life, that sometimes becomes too hard to take in. Whenever I fly or whenever I travel, I get to be so excited that all I could think of and appreciate is the present, making me forget the worries of the past and the anxiety for the future.

Living the moment is an important feeling to have, once in a while. That is why I engage in activities that will make me experience those, every now and then.

Venezuela is one of the many places in the world were tourist like to head out into

. The climate, the food, the people, the different colorful festivities and the beautiful beaches and sceneries, are enough reasons for tourist to include this place in their bucket list of places to go to.

This is the reason why I went to Venezuela just a couple of weeks ago. I had one of the best times of my life ever. The people were very warm and friendly and the beaches with bonfires and dancing just really made me feel happy and thankful that I got the chance to visit the place.

While I was there, I also had one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life, and I did not even had to spend too much money.

See, whenever I go to a place for a vacation, I always make sure that I spend on a budget. People think that living this kind of life is extravagant. Well, of course you will have to spend cash, but you can always do something about the amount of money you spend. There are a lot of ways to save up on your expenses whenever you decide to visit a new place.

Going for a vacation does not mean spending all the savings, you know. So I don’t dazzle myself with 5 star hotels and whatnot. I stay in places that are pretty and unique for each place I visit, and it should have reasonable rates. In Venezuela, I stayed in an Inn by the beach. I chose it because it had a very good view of the beach and the area, and it was near enough to go home to, just in case I’d end up having a drink too many.

This simple example is a reminder that when you travel, you can travel on a budget and still have the time of your life. This is also a reminder that no matter how much fun you plan to have, you have to have a plan of keeping yourself safe and away from danger. After all, you are still in a foreign land and it will be difficult to get caught up in any trouble. Not only will it ruin the fun you intend to have, but would also make you fear of ever travelling and being adventurous ever again.

Beginning Your Recreational Flying Journey

Recreational Aircraft or Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) as they are known in the US is a generally new class of aeronautics, which has as of late surged in fame because of its minimal effort and high enjoyment factor.

These planes are:

  • Small, easy to work, low execution air ship.
  • MTOW of 600kg or less
  • Powered by a Single cylinder motor
  • No more than two seats
  • Generally just permitted to be flown in uncontrolled airspace

By and large these air ships don’t have a sort certificate, however, are still required to be manufactured to a concurred standard.

An example of a light game air ship is the Australian constructed Jabiru J 170, which is a two seat, high wing flying machine with an 80hp Jabiru motor. The flying machine has a journey pace of approx. 100knots or 185 kms an hour and retails for more or less $70,000.

The start of your recreational flying experience begins with a Trial Instructional Flight. They are regularly close to 100 and they, for the most part, are a 30-moment flight with an educator where you encounter the controls for the first time.

Requirements

The base prerequisites for picking up your permit are 15 hours of instructions from and expert and 5 hours of solo flight as an understudy pilot.

Yet, as with any other activity, the preparation time needed for you to be truly prepared to fly a recreational plane will depend on your skill level. This level will be assessed by an expert. Without their go signal, you cannot have your license and you cannot fly any aircraft, even the small recreational aircrafts.

There are hypothetical courses that can help you better understand the concept of actual flying. You can also take these courses apart from the actual flying lessons so that you can better grasp the idea of flying an aircraft.

Why Get into Recreational Flying?

  • It is fun. We have a ton of uncontrolled airspace that permit this activity, waiting to be explored by brave souls who muster enough courage and will to learn how to pilot a recreational plane.
  • Medical – you just need a driver’s permit to share In RA flying rather than an extraordinary medicinal cert for GA.
  • The expense of flying the airplane can be low since the flying machine to be used uses little fuel and there are a lot of available recreational planes you can choose from, if you dedicate enough time to search for them in your locality or through the internet.

Recreational flying is considered a sport by many. Though this will not make you an instant expert in flying, it does not entirely matter. The whole point in engaging in this activity is to experience and learn how to fly an aircraft, no matter how small. Choosing to be a professional in this field is a different thing and can be entirely up to you.
